Ghost Whisperer: The Third Season

Third season Amps up the Scares!
A critic once said of the 1970s Wonder Woman TV series that there was only two good things about the show and they were both holding up star Lynda Carter's costume. Ghost Whisperer has at times been dismissed in the same way over its well-endowed star, Jennifer Love Hewitt, a wildly unfair criticism. In the third season, Ghost Whisperer reached its stride as a well-written genre show. The horror elements were increased dramatically over the first two seasons and Melinda Gordon faced some of her most terrifying threats so far.

One of the season's main plot devices of season three is the discovery that the town of Grandview was built on top of the former town that existed in the 1800's. What's more, there are numerous souls wandering about the old city and their reason for being drawn or trapped there is a mystery. Melinda finds that there is an entranceway to the old town behind one of the walls her in shop's basement. The other continuing story of the year surrounds...

Very enjoyable season...
I am a fan of this show. I love the story about Melinda's "gift" of being able to see dead people and help them and the people they leave behind find closure so that they could "crossover." Almost every episode is a tearjerker. I don't think I've watched many shows where either Jennifer-Love Hewitt or I (or both) shed a tear or two. Wouldn't it be great if there were a real-life person who could communicate with the dead and help us find peace and resolve whatever misunderstanding between the dead and the living? But the more I watched the show, the more bored I became. It's almost the same theme on every episode, and it was just too repetitive for my taste. As the weeks passed, I watched the show less and less, until I completely passed on season two altogether. Stuck visiting family over the holidays, I grabbed the season three boxed set and watched a few episodes. The third season of Ghost Whisperer comes with a few new surprises: spookier ghosts, more storylines centered...

AWESOME SHOW
All I can say is that "Ghost Whisperer" is an awsome show! It leaves with a good feeling for both life and death. It leaves you teary eyed with each show. The insight is amazing and the realism is superb. Everything meshes together and it can make you a believer in after death experiences. Melinda and Jim are amazing together. You feel the love and trust they have in each other. They blend together as well as "The Cosby Show" team. The entire cast has always worked well together, including Andrea and Delia. I could go on and on about this show. I do not miss an episode. New or reruns. My DCR is set to record EVERY episode.

Beyond Belief

Beyond Belief is a Powerful Story of Two 9/11 Widows
The sky that day was a yawning cobalt blue - a crisp, late summer morning infused with feathery glaze of autumn. It was a perfect day for picking apples, strolling along the Charles River, or visiting the Boston Common. But this innocent Tuesday would soon tumble into horror.

By 8:46 a.m., the first commercial airplane out of Boston crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center Complex. Less than 20 minutes later, a second commercial airliner - also originating out of Boston -- struck the South Tower.

The rest is history and that beautiful Tuesday now lives in infamy as September 11, 2001.

There are many stories about 9/11, but few as powerful and heartbreaking as those of Susan Retik and Patti Quigley. The suburban mothers from Massachusetts were pregnant the morning their husbands were murdered by terrorists.

Filmmaker Beth Murphy gives us an up-close and unflinching look at Retik and Quigley in the documentary "Beyond Belief"...

inspiring
An incredible story about 2 very courageous women and how we all can make a difference. A true lesson about Love, Caring, Compassion, Involvement and how we can be the change we want the world to see and be!

Two American widows...two amazing women
This documentary follows the journey of two American women who lost their husbands in the planes used in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. What these women do, upon joining forces with each other, is an extraordinary journey toward hope and peace, as they realize their connection to the many Afghan widows devastated by war while, like them, never having had anything to do with the bloody storms around them. These Afghan widows have no resources without husbands and, if they were to marry again, they would be forced to give up their children to their dead husband's families, which none of them were willing to do. The two Americans seek initially to help in small ways, raising money to send chickens, a valued form of income and survival through both eggs and meat, and then decide to meet these courageous women face to face. There are many honest moments of weakness, sadness, and resistance, and they each have very different reactions to the various challenges they face--which...

Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition w/ Transforming Packaging)

A blend of cringe inducing screenwriting, nostalgia and mind blowing action
For a nerd that used to drool over this show as a kid, this movie hooks you from the very beginning. From Optimus Prime's summary intro (with Peter Cullen still at the helm of our favorite alien semi) to the Decipticon attack on the military base, you have no doubts that this is Transformers. Shia LaBeouf makes his entrance and proves the perfect part for this movie. He's actually pretty funny and acts the part well. As far as the rest of the humans in this cast, not as much can be said.

After the awesome introduction, the first part of the movie deals mainly with Shia LaBeouf's Sam purchasing a Camaro that actually turns out to be the Autobot Bumblebee (in the cartoon, originally a VW Bug. I think the yellow VW Bug in the car lot next to Bumblebee was a homage.) Sam unknowingly uses his alien car to impress a girl. Of course she actually is impressed when they find out it's an alien. There are some pretty funny scenes in this part of the movie as well as some...

better than expected
Maybe it's not the best movie as far as dialogue goes, but for being an action movie about robots from outer space, it's good. The transformations are good enough to not raise doubt about the mechanics of them (which is good for me as an aerospace engineer, because I tend to notice these things). This is the kind of movie that makes large HD televisions and high-quality sound systems worth having.

Transformers does have more than meets the eye
Pretty much almost every male kid who grew up during the 80's were glued to their TV sets on weekday afternoons watching just one thing. They were watching one of the best cartoon shows on TV which also happened to be Hasbro Toys' most popular line of toys at that time. I am talking about Transformers. I know I was pretty much hooked on the show with its tale of good versus evil as the noble leader (who also happened to be a Mack truck) Optimus Prime led his Autobots against the evil robot that was Megatron and his Decepticons. It had lots of fighting, explosions and most of all, it had toys of every Transformer in the show for kids to re-enact such battles.

In 1986 the first Transformers movie (animated) came out and pretty much scarred every kid who was ever a fan of the show for life as their beloved characters actually died on-screen to make way for a new generation of Transformers. Let's just say that as much as I enjoyed the original movie I also hated it. It is now...

The Blue Elephant

Blue Elephant Wages War
My wife bought this movie after seeing an ad on tv and thinking my 2 yr old son would like the cute little blue elephant. And he does. The animation is good and there are plenty of different characters although the story follows just one of them for 95% of the movie. I sat down and watched this all the way through only once with my son, as he's at the age where he can only handle 20 minutes of story line at a time (not helped by the fact all his tv shows are about 10 to 20 minutes an episode).

But once we got into the third act, things I thought got a little disturbing. There are a lot of war scenes towards the end, and throughout the whole story there are a lot of fights, teasing, slightly creepy images of red eyed monstrous elephants (the animation makes them look more like demons than elephants), and I basically felt uncomfortable with my two year old staring at it. I also didn't like the message about war being a necessary thing in society (actually I was quite...

Wonderful film!
My child thoroughly enjoyed this wonderfully animated film. She's watched it several times this weekend, and wants a copy of her own. (we rented this one) Although I agree, that for smaller children, it might be scary. The cover art DOES NOT give you a good idea of what the film is all about, however, I do think that in the situation presented in the movie (Siam being invaded by Burma), that the war is justified, even though it obviously wasn't what the animals or the people wanted. They wanted peace, but knew they could never have it without fighting for it. Appropriate film for 4 and up, in my opinion.

the blue elephant
this film is trash do not buy this for your children i had to turn it off in 5 min to much name calling
very viloet talk, was so surprise that this was in children dvd it is very bad for young kids alot of bullying in it
i will not let my child see this trash ,i thought that by title and film cover this would be for kids its not

Lucky Star, Vol. 3

More of a good thing
The Lucky Star saga continues in very much the same fashion, so if you've read my review on volume two or any of the other reviewers then simply go read those and all that applies here. There, I'm done...

...Were it so easy. Actually, the third DVD is mostly more of the same which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you loved the first two discs. If you're new to Lucky Star, then you could simply jump into any one of the first three discs and still get the basic idea (though, it is best to start with the first DVD).

There are a couple stand out moments. Most memorable in my mind is the introduction of the employees of the local manga shop Animate. Over the top would be the simplest way of describing these stereotypical action anime characters, as explosions and special effect illuminate the screen in there attempts (and failure) to sell the heroine Konota all that they have to offer. While it's somewhat embarrassing to watch it's also very amusing, like watching...

love this series
What the title says I love it works great in my ps3 and the video quality is awesome nothing wrong brand new. Only wish volume 6 was available

Inspector Lewis: Pilot & Series 1

PBS has cut out 10 minutes from the UK version of each episode!
We fans in North America have been duped by PBS video! It was bad enough that we endure a lazy DVD production that is 2 years behind what's available in the UK and simply applies the "Masterpiece Mystery" broadcast version of the show onto video. That is to say, one must endure annoying PBS ads; a superficial intro by host Alan Cumming; an unacceptable preview that spoils some surprises for anyone hoping to enjoy the episode freshly; and a cruel removal of Barrington Pheloung's end credit theme music for the show, which I've therefore never heard.

HOWEVER, each of these episodes is missing about 10 minutes of story that has been edited out so that PBS can air the show in its 90 minute time slot. I found this out when I realized that my "Inspector Morse" DVDs released by Carleton Video always ran about 1 hour and 34 minutes, and asked PBS if "Lewis" should really be longer than the DVDs' 1 hour and 24 minutes. They had the courtesy to admit the truth. Why it's necessary for...

Excellent follow-up to Inspector Morse
I have just seen the pilot and three episodes of "Inspector Lewis", which I assume comprise this DVD, on my local PBS station and am already considering buying the DVD. Like so many, I was a huge "Morse" fan and have been surprised and delighted at the wonderful job that has been done in developing the "Lewis" sequel. The development of the aging Lewis is compelling and believable; the relationship with his new, younger partner, Hathaway, promises to be as rich as that of Lewis and Morse. It's not that often that a "spinoff" or follow-up is as good as "Inspector Lewis" promises to be. I only hope that there are more to come.

Possibly better than the Morse series
A big fan of the Morse mysteries, both videos and books, I was really pleased when the Inspector Lewis series began and I hope there will be more. Who knew Lewis had so much personality? Totally enjoyable. And his partner Hathaway has some depth, too. A terrifically entertaining series.

The Bodyguard 2

Bodyguard without a body...
The Good Things
*Pretty good video quality; possibly better than the first "Bodyguard" DVD.
*Good audio. Includes both English and its original Thai. Also had Spanish subtitles.
*Inclues a 30-minute making-of featurette.
*Filming style is pretty good.
*Includes some very slick, exciting action scenes and some weird zany comedy. Has a couple of cool martial arts fight scenes. Some of the other action scenes are better than the first film.
*Characters are pretty good. Good acting.

The Bad Things
*Not for kids; contains violence, swearing, and nudity.
*Cover art is rather misleading. It looks like a stylish action flick, but is really a comedy.
*It doesn't seem to be as funny as the first film.

The Questionable Things
*Good grief, the main character's wife sure is annoying. Could be good, because it adds to the comedy and conflict. But, I found her annoying.
*Storyline is quite different. The main character...

Lots of action and differnt style of humor
I have very mixed feelings about this movie. The English appears dubbed but is in sink with action and lips. It is strange that the subtitles do not match what is said in English, sometimes way different and unrelated to the action. Action, acting and stunts are first class and never ending. It seems like someone dies or gets bashed every 20 seconds during the movie. So it definitely qualifies as an Adult video. Movie seems to contain more humor than violence and I personally wanted to take out his crazy wife which maybe the humor they added. Some T & A but don't remember any total nudes, just lots of legs. The lead/spy become a singer and makes good trying to gather information about their illegal activities and that to seem full of misfortunes and humor. Watch it and if you have the change, buy it.

Farcical Fun to Become a Cult Hit...
A fun "six-pack" Taiwanese movie with non-stop laughs, action, and stupid jokes that hit the mark. Watch early for the shooter with the eyebrows and later for Eminem waiting with Michael Jackson. The wit is very fast paced, the stunts are rapid and slapstick. The English lip-dub is right-on (correct me if I'm wrong about this being a lip-dubbed movie please). I laughed from the opening scene to the last. I didn't understand the credit roll humor as this was my first Taiwanese movie but I thoroughly enjoyed the 95 minutes devoted to this movie...
